What are good haircuts for someone with poofy, curly, thick hair???

it all depends on if you embrace your hairs natural poofy curlyness, or want to straighten it. even If you have african hair, or very thick latino or white hair (like myself) a shorter cut can work. I use garnier fructis shampoo and conditioner specifically for curls, put in a little leave in conditioner, and use a bobby pin to keep the hair around my face out of my face. curly hair actually holds better in a french braid than straight hair does. If you want to straighten your hair, I would recommend getting a good flat-iron. I don't recommend chemical relaxers just because it causes too much damage to your hair. any other questions, and sample styles, let me know.

wear an afro

Get layers, this should turn the poofiness into a curl. Try to keep it long otherwise it will become for poofy. Get it thinned out. Your hairdresser will know what is best for you so ask.

I have the same problem as you. Listen to le_miserable, keep your hair longer, DO NOT CUT IT MORE THAN 1/4 INCH. One thing about le_miserable's comment, however, is that I got layers and it totally messed up my hair. All it does now is bunch up after drying, so I suggest thinning it out or occasionally straightening it.

Long to weigh it down, or you could also just have an afro.

I understand your problem. Don't cut your hair too short, I would say stay below the shoulder, otherwise it will poof and frizz even more. And that is just not the way you want to go. I just got my hair cut at a professional salon, those places tend to work the best. They know what they are doing, and if you choose correctly, don't cost TOO much. I have layers, but not an exaggerated amount and my shortest is just below my chin. This helps a lot in minimizing the frizz. If you want, straighten your hair too, it helps to keep the poof under control. Also, look for some good products. I use Aussie Smooth, but Pantene Curl works too, as well as the Frizz Ease collection. There are ways to control unruly hair, you just need to find the right way with your hair type. If you want to keep it manageable, keep it a bit longer so that the frizz stays under control. If you want to go for a fro, well by all means, fro it up! But if not, be sure to be careful around things like humidity and the rain. Those are killers for my hair. So my suggestion on haircuts is to stay a bit longer, keep it reasonable, and find a cut that flatters your facial structure. Go in and talk to a hair stylist, see if you can find one with a similar hair type, they will know the most.

Try getting a cut from a hair stylist that has had Ouidad training. Ouidad designed a product line and a cut specifically for curly hair.

I used to straighten my curly hair because I hated the poofy curls that were even poofier when humidity was high. Now I love my curls. No poof, defined curls, managable hair.

For the love of God, PLEASE NO LAYERS!

Unless you want to be straightening it everyday.

If you want to keep it curly, I suggest long, shaped locks, maybe a U-shape.

Layers will make it poofier and frizzier so treating it will take a LONG TIME. Feathering does the same.

If you want the poofiness to subside, grow it relatively long to weigh it down and make it sit DOWN rather than OUT.

Thick hair is a blessing but can be a burden, so try things out and experiment :)

Find something that works for your style of hair, not what's "hot" in the media right now.

Layers. Maybe even razoring it. I did that to mine and my hair is sooo cute when it's curly.
