How to wear really curly(very thick) hair down without it looking pufffy?

It all starts with the products you're using. First, use a good shampoo and conditioner that will not frizz your hair - I like Redken and Paul Mitchell. After that, use a leave in product like Biosilk to smooth your hair and add moisture. Then use a thick, heavy mousse like Joico's Joiwhip and put a handful of it in your hair and work it in. Then go in 2-3 inch sections and comb your hair thru with a fine toothed comb. This will help you to form the curl. As you comb it thru, finger curl it around. Do this on your whole head. When you're finished, you'll look like you have a geri-curl (LOL), but don't worry - it gets better. Next, use a hair dryer WITH a DIFFUSER (very important) and dry your hair all over leaving your curls in tact. Don't pull them or stretch them. You may have to squeeze them a little just to set the curls. When your head is COMPLETELY DRY (and not a moment sooner), use your hands to loosen up the curls and pull them apart. Should work like a charm!

Shampoo and condition your hair very well and brush with your wide toothed comb and/or brush. Make sure there are no knots!

Apply a small amount of conditioner and anti-frizz serum (anti-frizz serum is optional). Rub the products in very well until you can't see them in your hair anymore.

If your hair is naturally wavy let it air dry or blow dry your hair with a comb using anti-frizz serum.

Turn on the curling iron or curling irons that you plan to use.*

While the curling irons are warming up, separate your hair into three sections by pulling two sections to each side of your face leaving the third section to be the back.

Clip up two of the sections, leaving one down. Curl the first section, starting toward the back of your head and working your way to the front. When you put your hair in the curling iron it should look like a spring that is coiled around the curling iron. If you have two different sizes of curling irons use the larger one to curl the bottom layer of your hair and the smaller one to curl the top.

Spray that section with your hairspray and gently clip it away from the rest.

When you finish all of the sections, take out any clips or scrunchies you have holding the section and spray your hair all over with hairspray one more time.

Tips:

* Make sure you tussle your hair throughout the day to give it more body with a relaxed look to it yet it looks bouncy.

* don't make the curling iron go all the way up to your head or it will look too curly

* Use maximum hold hair spray to keep your style in all day.

hope this helps

thick curly hair usually demands that you wahs it everyday or risk having greasy skin, but try skipping the conditioner ever other day and apply mouse to the hair once you end your shower and instead of blow drying, apply anti frizzing products and let it air dry( you might wanna do this the night before) if you dont have enough time to let it air dry, then just hold the blow drying above your head till dry. right before you walk out the door, comb your hair with a wide tooth comb.

I wish I could be threre to try this but what if you pick the curls apart. Does that give you way too much hair? When you have them in tressels of some type instead of tight curls you may have to have a squirt of hairspray to hold thelm in place.
